Some of the most important lessons I’ve learned about life have come from moments when life itself hung in the balance.

I remember caring for a patient whose life had changed in an instant. Just hours earlier, they had been going about an ordinary day. Now they were lying in a trauma bay, surrounded by a team working to keep them alive. Moments like that change how you see the world. They remind you how fragile life is, how quickly our circumstances can change, and how much can depend on the knowledge, preparation, and decisions of others.

I’ve celebrated recoveries that once seemed impossible, and I’ve felt the deep sadness of lives we could not save. Along the way, I’ve come to appreciate something that continues to guide me: some of the most valuable things we learn are not meant to be kept to ourselves. That conviction is at the heart of why I created this site.

Medicine has been one of the great passions of my life. I love the science, the art, the challenges, and above all, the privilege of caring for people. But some of my most rewarding moments have come from teaching. I’ve explained a concept to a resident in the operating room several different ways, then watched the moment it finally made sense. That moment never gets old. There is something deeply fulfilling about helping someone discover what they’re capable of.

That same desire to share what I’ve learned and use what I’ve been given to help others has taken me beyond the hospital. During one of our medical missions, I encountered a patient who had lived for years with a condition that could be treated surgically. The treatment existed, but it had remained beyond their reach. I still think about how different that person’s life might have been if care had come sooner. Experiences like that have deepened my understanding of service and strengthened my commitment to making healthcare more accessible.

Through Shekinah Global Healthcare Foundation, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside dedicated volunteers and partners who share that commitment. Together, we’ve seen what becomes possible when people bring their knowledge, skills, and resources together to serve others. These experiences have reinforced something I believe deeply:

The value of what we have is measured not only by what it accomplishes for us, but also by what it makes possible for others.

Over the years, I’ve also discovered how closely the lessons of medicine reflect the lessons of life. Surgery has taught me the importance of preparation and the courage to make difficult decisions. Teaching has reminded me of the value of patience and humility. Leadership has challenged me to invest in the growth of others, while service has broadened my understanding of compassion and responsibility. Through it all, my faith has shaped how I understand purpose, success, and the life I want to live.

These experiences may seem different, but to me, they are deeply connected. And that is what I hope to share here. We’ll explore medicine and surgery in ways that are both informative and accessible. We’ll discuss education, leadership, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence. I’ll share lessons from the operating room, stories from medical missions, insights from writing and teaching, and reflections on faith, family, and life beyond medicine. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, a student, an aspiring leader, or simply someone curious about medicine and life, I hope you’ll find something here that speaks to you.

If something you discover here helps you understand a little more, see something differently, pursue a goal with renewed confidence, or find a way to help someone else, then this space will have served its purpose.

Welcome. I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to what we’ll discover together.
